“Now is the time to ask yourself, what you believe.” ~ Rob MacGregor
It’s a challenging thought to realise that at your weakest, you have felt more invincible than ever in the later stages of your life. As a child, you think you can run and climb walls like spiderman or help dad navigate the car; magically extending your small hands forward to signal cars to stop while your dad hides his smile of how adorable you look and how convinced you are of your powers; why would they ever crush such a beautiful thought?
We all had an invisible super cape as children. My “power” when I was young was believing I can talk to animals. I would spend hours explaining to mum what a bird or a house pet told me or even bet dad that I can make that snake at the zoo move if I tell it to! Believing in my powers, I never questioned anything and kept enjoying that momentary feel of superiority in a humble fashion!
One day walking past a shop’s window, I saw a glimpse of my invisible cape and I remembered how much did I believe in myself. It stunned me to recall such memories, as now I stumble to see what my loved ones see in me and urge me to believe as well.
“The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I’m not going to let myself pull me down anymore.” ~ C. JoyBell C.
I guess as you grow older you find someone wearing a similar super cape or perhaps a better one, your parents can no longer say you are the best and you are faced with reality; there are people like me out there and Disney lied: I am not so special!
I was faced with many moments of : so they are the same then? and how come they can do it better than me? and who said I am so special after all?
What I have realised now is that we each wondered different paths, believed in our own super powers, faced bumps in the road and realised the only power we have is to believe we can and accept our imperfections. Some of us walked a path and decided to change it and some of us walked it all through and found a dead-end, some even jumped a wall to continue that same path believing some of their powers might come to them one day.
Well I know for sure, I do have a power: the power to influence and to see truth, humanity and love everywhere <3
